How much does a smart home actually cost?

Our packages show honest typical ranges on the Services page — from boosting an existing Home Assistant setup to a full whole-home build. Your quote itemises everything; no surprises.

Will I be locked into monthly fees?

No. Home Assistant is free and open — no platform fees, no per-device charges, no features behind paywalls. Everything in your home works fully with zero subscriptions, forever. The only optional extras: Home Assistant Cloud (~$10/mo) if you want the easiest remote app access and one-click voice-assistant linking — paid directly to Nabu Casa, not bundled into our fees — it funds the open-source platform your home runs on, and we recommend it. Our care plan is a separate, cancel-anytime service fee for monitoring, updates and support.

Do I need a subscription to control my home from my phone when I'm out?

At home: never — everything runs locally. Away from home, the simplest path is Home Assistant Cloud (~$100/year, paid directly to Nabu Casa, funds the platform's development) — the Companion app just works, and voice assistants link in one tap. Prefer zero cost? We can set up a free private VPN on your own account — no domain, no subscription, no technical knowledge needed beyond installing an app on your phone. It's yours to keep regardless of whether you use our services. We'll explain both honestly and set up whichever you prefer.

Do I have to replace the smart devices I already own?

Almost never. With over 1,500 integrations across Wi-Fi, Zigbee and Matter, we integrate what you have and only recommend buying what genuinely adds something.

I rent — can I still do this?

Yes. Plenty of the good stuff needs no fixed wiring: smart plugs, sensors, bulbs, voice, dashboards and automations all move out with you.

Is remote access to my home safe?

We never open your home to the public internet, access is only ever with your written authorisation, and every change is preceded by a verified backup. The full detail is in "Your home, your data, your keys" on the home page.

What happens after setup if something breaks?

Every setup includes 30 days of post-handover support at no charge. After that, the care plan covers you — or we're available ad hoc.
